Your Name's Sake

Your Name's Sake

Last night I chose to wander, and so I left Your side.
What I thought was better was the shadow of my pride.
So I totter back to You, longing to run and hide.
Still You whisper in my ear, "My child, you are Mine."

To be called Your own beloved is a terrifying thing.
I cannot help but wonder why I'm cherished by a King.
Empty-handed at the altar, I've nothing left to bring.
I fight to give my filthy rags; You gave everything.

My past is full of struggle, of shame, of my mistakes.
After all this time, I can hear you calling, "Wake!"
Let me see with Your eyes. Allow my heart to break.
I marvel in Your presence. I'm loved for Your Name's sake.

  1. Possibly my favorite song is "The Little Drummer Boy." It's the best way I know to describe my feelings about my relationship with God.

"I have no gift to bring, that's fit to give a King."

"Shall I play for you ... on my drum?"

That's all I can find to do. Try to improve myself, and help improve the world, using what I'm learning from Him.

"Then He smiled at me ... me and my drum."
My most cherished wish and hope is to see that smile. One of the biggest mysteries of my life has been how to know when He is smiling at me.
