Here are five things on my mind tonight.
1.) At least five people have suggested I blog about this and the next topic, so I will.
I took up longboarding approximately a month ago. I love it. As a kid, I always wanted to get a skateboard, but my mom wouldn't let me. In fact, I purchased one for a few dollars from a garage sale when I was about ten years old and my mom threw it away!
Longboarding is a big deal at Texas A&M, so I went ahead and purchased one. Surprisingly and thankfully, my parents were fine with the idea and did not protest. I've been practicing ever since. I'm not great yet, but I can manage. I'm getting better.
It's a lot of fun. And now Jack wants to longboard too.
2.) Now, longboarding isn't always the safest thing to do if you're going down a hill and not wearing a helmet, which was what I happened to be doing about a week ago.
I was in an accident. I somehow managed to fall off my board (I don't remember how). I was knocked out for a moment. My memory of the situation is this: I'm at the top of the hill, talking and laughing with a friend... and then I'm on my back on the ground towards the bottom of the hill, feeling dazed, dizzy, and confused.
It turns out I got a concussion, along with quite a few bumps and bruises. My dizziness and headaches have mostly gone away; all I have left is a little trouble focusing and a frazzled short term memory. The doctor said the symptoms should all go away in three or four weeks though. Each day is better.
So I am probably not the most talented longboarder. But I still enjoy it. I went longboarding today, in fact.
And I also plan to get a helmet.
3.) My classes have finally begun. I'm taking fourteen hours this semester, which should be a lot better than crazy last semester! I'm taking Oceanography, American Sign Language III, Media Industry Communications, and New Media Communications (a class about... BLOGGING!).
I plan to study, study, study this semester. For real. Last semester was a bit messy in terms of grades and stress, so I am determined this semester to do my best and try to leave the rest in God's hands. It's hard to keep confidence in my abilities and school work when I did not do great in my math class last year at all, but I will try my best this semester. We will see what happens.
4.) Impact Retreat was AMAZING. Thank you to everyone who prayed for me and the class of 2016 who attended. God moved powerfully there. Lives were changed. The Gospel was shared. Friendships and community were created. It was beautiful.
And my Basic Group was wonderful as well. We formed fast friendships. Look at all those awesome freshmen! (And me and Luke, the not-so-freshmen.)
5.) First Breakaway of the semester was last night. Over 10,000 students showed up! 1/5 of Texas A&M University was gathered in one room, worshiping the Lord and asking Him to move on our campus. AMAZING!
I truly feel so blessed to attend a university where the largest college Bible study gathers together once a week. It's astonishing.
