Highlights: Depression and the Church

What was heartbreakingly beautiful.
What the Church & Christians Need to Know About Suicide & Mental Health by Ann Voskamp
Depression is like a room engulfed in flames and you can’t breathe for the sooty smoke smothering you limp — and suicide is deciding there is no way but to  jump straight out of the burning building.
That when the unseen scorch on the inside finally sears intolerably hot -  you think a desperate lunge from the flames and the land of the living seems the lesser of two unbearables.

What was a thoughtful response to a hateful article.
Are Christian Missionaries Narcissistic Idiots? by Albert Mohler
American nationalism of this toxic variety flies right in the face of the gospel of Jesus Christ and in the command of Christ given in the Great Commission. ...American evangelical Christians did not come up with the Great Commission because we were frustrated with losses in the culture war. American Christians are not “slinking off” to foreign countries in order to escape the United States; they are going in obedience to the command of Christ.

What is informative about how to take action for the poor in Liberia.
Ebola by Milton Jones
The Ebola tragedy in West Africa and specifically Liberia is not only scary but has become devastating.  President Sirleaf of Liberia has shut down the country for 90 days. This has caused the price of food to skyrocket.  Liberians are being told to no longer drink well water which has caused bottled water prices to also soar.

What was frightening.
Inside Mark Driscoll's Disturbed Mind by Rachel Held Evans
I’m as sick as everyone else of talking about this guy. Believe me. But it makes me even more sick to consider what will happen if we don’t, if his leadership goes unchallenged and he continues to hurt people with his teachings. This is not some obscure pastor with no platform. He’s not a random internet troller who is best left ignored. This is one of the most powerful and influential pastors in evangelical Christianity.
