A Future Hope

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” –Jeremiah 29:11

This is a verse I pray over the children in my program. So many have grown up without hope.

If you ask a child living in poverty what they want to do when they grow up, they often have no answer. It’s because what has been driven into them again and again is that there is no future, there is no hope. With each hungry day, with each disdainful look pointed towards them because of their orphan status, with each day of waiting at home instead of going to school, their minds are further engrained with the thought: “There is no hope for me.”

An obstacle CRF is always fighting to overcome is the mindset of hopelessness in developing communities. Sponsorship is a tremendous help because for the first time in the lives of these orphans, someone is writing to them and saying, “I am investing in your education because I believe you have a bright future. You are valuable. You are loved.” This makes all the difference.

I recently began coordinating a program called Lurare Primary School in Kimilili that I have not highlighted in my daily posts until now. Each time I visit this place, I see young faces flooded with hope. It radiates from them. They have a future hope due to education—and they have a future hope eternally as they give their hearts to Jesus Christ.

Pray Jeremiah 29:11 over these orphans with me today. God has so much planned for their lives. They are tremendously and endlessly loved.
